~LOVE is in the Air~

Wow...what a sweet little Valentine's party we had the other week.  My apologies for not getting this up sooner.  I did post pictures to our class Facebook page though.  Thank you so much to all of you that thought of me in someway...gift cards, candy, school supplies...whatever it was.....THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart.  It was truly amazing to see all the sweet treats that were brought in for me and made me feel super special.  The kids did a great job creating their Valentine's day boxes and bags.  Their special treats and cards were so cute.  They loved getting to share how much they care about their friends.  They had a ton of snacks and drinks and just plain had a blast.  I was so caught up in the fun that I forgot to take pictures until right before school was letting out.  Here are some pictures of the students boxes and bags they created.

The students have been learning how to compare and contrast events and characters in a story.  We compared ourselves to our friends using a Venn Diagram and then wrote about each other.  We also got to compare Mrs. Dusenberg and Mrs. Hogan!  The students also have compared Ruby Bridges, Rosa Parks, and Martin Luther King, Jr.  Some other books we have used for comparing are The Three Little Pigs, The True Story of the Three Little Pigs, Red Riding Hood and Lon Po Po.

We also reviewed our doubles facts with this sweet little activity I created for the kids.  In math we are learning how to recognize our "doubles plus 1" facts.   This is important because if I know my doubles facts I can easily apply that information to my "doubles plus 1" facts.  For example, if I know that 5 + 5 = 10 then I know that 5+6 must equal 11 because 5 and 5 is 10 plus 1 more is 11.

Preparations Under Way…

Baby Karly will be making her presence known any day now.  I’ve been working diligently to prepare 6 weeks of lesson plans for Mr. Sub.  He’ll have plenty of materials for my kiddies and they are excited about having him in the classroom.  As soon as Baby K arrives, I’ll let you know.  I am hoping for a super smooth transition when this occurs.  Until then, I will continue to work up until our little one comes.

We had a great Valentine’s Day celebration in the classroom.  I love seeing the students creativity when it comes to decorating their Valentine boxes.  Thank you to all who thought of me on this special day.  Also a BIG thank you to all who brought treats for the class.  They had a blast sharing their Valentine’s.  I hope you enjoy the pictures from our party.

I hope your Valentine’s was spent with family and friends that you care deeply about.  Remember we do not have school on Monday, February 17th for President’s Day.  Then, it’s back to learning on Tuesday!  Hopefully they’ll be no more snow days getting in the way.  Here’s the most recent thing I’m working on for the kids.
120th day
Be on the lookout for our special 120th day celebration coming soon!!!!!!!!  I can hardly wait.  I hope baby K stays in a little while longer so I can celebrate this day with the kiddies.

ThUNdeR SnOW....A Snowy Day in Mid-MO!

Well it is quite clear by now that today was a snow day for our little kiddies here at CES.  The weather has been crazy with rain, sleet, snow, thunder and lightning all in the early morning hours!!  As I am writing this post my children are still in their comfy pj's...as am I...and the snow is still coming down quite heavy.  My oldest is looking forward to building Frosty once more and my  youngest is on her first nap of the day.  Oh how relaxing these unexpected snow days can be!
Last week we celebrated  Valentine's Day in our classroom.  I've been meaning to get this post up, but the busy week kept me from doing so...as did my sick girls at home.  We made 3 visits to the doctors in 1 week!!  We seem to be on the mend now...so here is a peek at some of the fun things we did last week.

We used Cara Carroll’s candy heart activity for a fun math lesson on probability.  You can find her original post here along with the activity.  I bought conversation hearts and placed a handful in each mystery bag.  The students were asked to grab a candy heart out of the bag 15 times.  They had to predict which color they thought they would pick more of, draw 15 times, and then tally their results.  Afterwards they wrote their inferences on why they picked out the most of their color.

We had a lot of creative and unique Valentine Boxes this year.  I’m sure Pinterest had nothing to do with it…right??!!!  Check out this adorable little box from one of my sweet kiddies.  Someone spent a lot of time on this box.  I hope she’s able to use again!  Winking smile
